Home Repair Services
First, read through the eligibility requirements, and the services we provide, listed below.
Repairs are done by staff, contractors and volunteers, when appropriate. Applicants are eligible for services only once every 2 years. Due to high demand and funding regulations, there may be a wait for our services.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a home repair, applicants must:
- Be at least 55 years old or have a permanent disability
- Own and occupy their own home in Portland
- Earn 50% of median income or less (Dependent on household size - see table below for current figure)

Services We Provide:
- Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Install safety aids such as grab bars and hand railings
- Repair porches and stairs to improve accessibility in and out of the home
- Change hard to reach bulbs
- Repair electrical outlets and switches that are potential fire hazards
- Fix faucet drips and leaks
- Snake clogged drains
- Perform minor dry-rot repair and caulking
- Patch minor roof leaks
- Clean and inspect gutters
- Replace furnace filters
- Limited exterior painting - Lents Urban Renewal Area only
- Treat for roaches, termites, and bees/wasps
- Work towards remediation of the city of Portland’s Title 29 Housing Violation Citations
Unfortunately We CANNOT perform the following types of work:
- Roof replacement
- Major structural upgrades
- Interior painting
- Secondary building and fences
- Repairs to furnaces or appliances
- Plumbing behind walls
The Fine Print:
- Due to a high demand, there may be a wait for our services.
- Services are dependent upon resources available at time of site assessment. (Funds for contractor services are especially limited.)
- Repairs are completed by staff, volunteers and contractors.
- Homeowners are eligible to apply once every two fiscal years.
- Funds for our program come from the Bureau of Housing and Community Development, the Portland Development Commission, area businesses and individual donations. Homeowners and their families help with repairs when feasible.
