Autumn and Lee’s Story

“Lee and I have always struggled to find housing we can afford.”
~ Autumn, Patton Park Apartments resident
Autumn Gaddy has lived in Northeast Portland with her partner Lee for over 15 years. Now their child Grace, is almost old enough to go to kindergarten. Before moving into Patton Park Apartments, the Gaddys were doubling up and living with another family in the basement of an unfinished house. Although Autumn appreciated sharing child care and support with the other family, their living situation was difficult. She says it was challenging to juggle the space needs of eight people underneath one roof.
Autumn discovered us while visiting the Trillium Charter School, right next-door to Patton Park. She noticed a sign marking the area “The future home of Patton Park Apartments.” According to Autumn, Patton Park is opening its doors not a moment too soon. “I was really excited to find this being built in North Portland, especially because my daughter’s school is right in the neighborhood.” Autumn hopes to get her daughter into Trillium Kindergarten next year.
“Lee and I have always struggled to find housing we can afford,” said Autumn. “If Patton Park hadn’t come along we would have tried to find another apartment in the neighborhood. But the rent would be at least two hundred dollars over what we’ll be paying at Patton Park,” she added. “For us right now, that $200 is the difference between eating well and not so well.”
