Tristan and Sarah’s Story

“The matched savings program …truly has made getting this house possible for us.”
~ Tristan, former REACH resident

Tristan and Sarah first moved into their REACH apartment in 2005 while finishing up undergraduate degrees and working to get on their feet once more. The affordable rent and proximity to school allowed them to focus on their careers instead of worrying about housing and transportation costs. Now finished with school, both are moving forward in life. Tristan now works for the City of Gresham as a Resource Conservation Coordinator and Sarah is going to graduate school to become a school counselor.

In 2008, Tristan and Sarah enrolled in our matched savings program to work towards a down payment on a house. They saved $1,000 over six months, and with the matching money, were able put an extra $4,000 towards a down payment. Now the couple has a place to call their own.

“We found out about the matched savings program from the newsletter” says Tristan, “It truly has made getting this house possible for us.” In fact, Sarah is also financing her whole second year of graduate school through money saved and matched with REACH.

Tristan and Sarah moved into their new home in December and are fixing it up themselves. They were able to get a good price knowing the house needed some work. Now, with a little bit of paint and sweat, they are making their house a home.
